Described by the Los Angeles Times as "vigorously virtuosic" and "building vast cathedrals of sound", Richard Valitutto is active in the Los Angeles area as a piano soloist, chamber musician, accompanist, teacher, and writer.  He graduated with a BM summa cum laude from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music where he studied piano with the world-renowned Pridonoff Duo.  He recently earned his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts where he was awarded the newly established Beutner Family Award for Excellence in the Arts, the institute’s most prestigious student scholarship.  Richard has studied and performed at the Bang on a Can, Brevard, and Eastern Music Festivals as well as the MidWest Composers Symposium and the International Society for Improvised Music.  He has given numerous premieres of works for solo piano and various ensembles.  Some of the composers he has worked with include Sofia Gubaidulina, Chinary Ung, Clarence Barlow, Timo Andres, and Steve Reich.  Richard is the pianist, creative team-member, and librarian for the critically acclaimed wild Up Modern Music Collective as well as a founding member of and pianist in the LA-based chamber ensembles gnarwhallaby and The Joshua Trio.
